About

The goal of this web site is to provide information about Naval Mine Warfare.

Having spent the past thirty years involved in naval mine warfare we have accumulated a significant amount of information on a whole range of topics, ranging from war stores about what it is like to be in a live minefield to complex probabilistic mathematical calculations that attempt to assess the risk of transiting a potentially cleared minefield.

We thought we would share some of this information for like minded naval mine warfare “nerds”.

We hope you will find it both entertaining and possibly useful in improving both the art and science of Naval Mine Warfare.

Russell Norman & Andy Perry

Russell Norman

Russell Norman has been involved in naval mine warfare for over 35 years. He is the technical director of Solutions from Silicon Pty Ltd, the developers of MINTACS (Mine Warfare Tactical Command Software). He started his involvement with mine warfare in the early 1990s, writing software for the sonar trials of Mine Hunter Inshore vessels of the Royal Australian Navy. Since that time, and over the past 25 years, he has led a team that has developed MINTACS into one of the world-leading naval mine warfare command support systems. MINTACS is now in service with many navies around the world, including the Royal Australian Navy, the UK Royal Navy and the Royal Swedish Navy. He has worked with navies big and small as they tackle the extremely challenging task of finding naval mines.
